Your task begins with your identity: You are a citizen of the United States of America who is politically active and votes.

Remember, in the United States, voters elect people whose job is to represent the interests of their constituents (the people who elected them). The elected officials hold a variety of policy positions that you may or may not agree with. As a politically-active voter, you seek to influence the elected officials, as well as other voters, to support policies that you think are best.

The Social Security program is an important part of public policy. Its future, or an alternative, depends on people like you.

This webquest will help you learn about the Social Security program, how it come about and alternatives. Once you are finished, you will be able to apply what you have learned in preparing a blog posting in which you attempt to persuade others to accept your position.

Again, once you have completed this webquest, you should be able to explain why the New Deal Social Security program was good or bad for America and why it should be continued or replaced with something else.

Are you ready to accept this responsibility?
